The book is written with very poetic language and makes for a very beautiful read.
Nicolson cycles through talking about creatures of the rockpools, the ocean tides, the sea shore, and how the effect of humans can shape the shoreline but also how the reverse can be true.
He touches upon science, history, and philosophy to tell the tales of the rockpools that he creates as well as the shoreline in general.
He looks at both the micro and the macroscopic and gives every different chapter/ segment equal importance – the periwinkle is as revered as the moon.
This book made me realise the importance of the shoreline, especially to places like Britain and Ireland where the tides are easy to observe,
A really good read, and definitely a poetic reading of the realities of the shoreline.
