REVIEW
I really enjoyed the way that this book was written and it was fascinating to go through the history of Planet Earth in reverse. The description of the different ecosystems were well-written and engaging and truly made me feel like I could visualise this ancient world around me and took me to another Earth millions of years in the past.
He touches on the current time and the issue of Climate Change and doesn’t shy away from the facts but is hopeful that we will be able to change things around – or at least lessen the impact – if we work together on it.
One complaint that I do have on the last section in particular is that he – along with many other authors who touch on the same topic – doesn’t mention the fact that a lot of what is causing Climate Change is big companies that are being allowed by their governments to keep burning coal and farming oil. I always understand that the ‘little guy’ has their part to play but I do wish this part was touched on more.
Though it is not as nuanced as the true scale of the issue, I do like that the tone at the end of the book is hopeful and he has the belief that we can reduce the overall damage and prevent more damage occurring and that this world-era is worth preserving.
