The author is not a scientist but he is a realist who knows people. He states the point that, though we should absolutely try and stop or at least lessen climate change, in the (large) chance that it will still happen, we need to focus on other things we are more likely to control like damage mitigation when things start falling apart – but this is on a national/international level.

He says that on a personal level, we need to find something small and obtainable – protect that and you’re still making a difference and, more importantly, you’ll still have more hope for the future than those that put all their eggs in one flimsy basket.
