REVIEW

It’s book about a journey based on a shared yet divided history. I liked the fact that the author was not afraid of his own opinion and it was a good insight into a nuanced perspective of Britishness, Englishness, and Scottishness and it was interesting to hear a Scotsman complain about Tartan and how its status has now been diluted and made ‘tacky’. There is also the fact that so much of the draw of England comes from London, not the rest of it which is also a shame.

I wish he had made clearer definitions between his daily journeys and his anecdotes and historical tangents as sometimes I lost the definition of where one ended and the next began. Other than that, I very much enjoyed it.
