REVIEW
This book started off fascinating and ended depressing. However that is just unfortunately reflects the history of the North of England.
We had a temporary boom of relevance with the Industrial Revolution but that didn’t last long and even that brought slums rather than riches.
It was depressing to read that Northerners voted for Tories over Labour and were the push that Leave needed in Brexit. And it was due to being poor and forgotten and angry and underfunded and undereducated in contrast to the South.
Our Golden Age seems to have been in ancient times which is pretty depressing but that’s British politics I suppose.
Well-written and organised understandable/ Just an unfortunate conclusion.
